The village will create an innovative, low cost, safe living environment for up to 20 homeless people for around 12-18 months where they will receive support and training to reenter society.
The nest houses comprise of 10 two-bedroom huts, each fitted with a combined lounge and kitchen. They have been built on Granton waterfront, with stunning views over the River Forth, and have a community center for residents to socialize.
“We wanted to try to develop a different model of housing homeless people, and one that is a really beautiful community environment, one where people receive lots of support and get built up rather than marginalized,” Josh Littlejohn, co-founder of Social Bite, told AFP.
Celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have paid visits to the homeless village, according to Littlejohn.
