Nigerian President Buhari arrives in US for meeting with Trump

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Washington DC on Sunday for his four-day working visit and will become the first African leader to be received by US President Donald Trump.

According to a Presidency twitter handle @NGRPresident, confirmed the arrival of the President in Washington on Sunday at about 4.20pm (Nigerian time).

Buhari left Abuja on Saturday and will be meeting the US President on Monday for bilateral talks and then later have a working lunch.

They are expect to discuss ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries with economic and security issues being top of the agenda.

"The meeting will further deepen the US-Nigeria relationship as the United States considers Nigeria's economic growth, security and leadership in Africa to be critical aspects of their strategic partnership,” Femi Adesina, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity said.

Adesina also said ahead of the visit by the president, meetings had been scheduled on April 26 and 27, between senior Nigerian government officials and executives of major U.S. companies in the areas of agriculture, aviation and transportation.

Senior Nigerian government officials will also discuss a number of projects with executives from major US transport companies.
